This little slice of heaven is a small University town, and in the vastness of my amazing country, we don’t even come close to being classified as The Outback. I lived in a tiny Opal mining town called “Lightning Ridge” many years ago, and have visited many Outback towns, but that’s a whole other book waiting to happen. Thanks again for stopping by, Ron.🐨😊

Thanks for the clarification, Soooz. My aunt is from Brisbane, which of course is north of you. So, I can actually claim relatives Down Under. I saw a map somewhere that showed 80 percent of Australia’s population lives in the coastal regions of the country, with the remaining 20 percent occupying the vast interior regions. Amazing.

🐨A wonderful poem by Dorothea MacKellar depicts this ancient land so beautifully. In part it says …
“The love of field and coppice
Of green and shaded lanes,
Of ordered woods and gardens
Is running in your veins.
Strong love of grey-blue distance,
Brown streams and soft, dim skies
I know, but cannot share it,
My love is otherwise.
I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror
The wide brown land for me!”
I have toured my country by caravan several times, and barely touched the fringes. No prizes for guessing just how much I love it here. 😊
